About a week ago Scots and I were talking about Facebook. I kind of like Facebook, he on the other hand HATES IT. He was going on to me about how lame people are with their status updates. Sometimes they are obviously phishing for a reply (”is planning something secret”). Sometimes they want people to actually care about whatever mundane thing they are doing (”is studying..argh”). Sometimes they are just plain lame (any Marky Mark update). I always try to have fun with it and mostly post Barney quotes from How I Met Your Mother, that’s because I am obsessed. The more I talked to Scots about it though, the more I realized he was right. Facebook is completely lame. For many it’s their only connection to the outside world and that’s kind of sad. So we decided to have some fun with it and I changed my relationship status from “Single” to “In A Relationship”. Here are the results:
- 1 comment on my status
- 3 inquiring text messages
- 5 people asking me in person who my girlfriend was
- 1 girl I was kind of seeing over the summer getting jealous
- 2 friends making fun of me because they knew I actually wasn’t in a relationship (or as I like to call them, two real friends)
And that’s just what I know of. For all I know every girl I have ever made out with was jealous (I believe this to be fact actually). The thing that pisses me off is this isn’t people who I hardly see, for those people I can accept the fact that they might believe the change. It’s the people who I see and talk to on a regular basis that bother me. I mean, have they met me? I talk about everything that happens in my life, I’m not going to tell some of my good friends that I have a girlfriend? Seriously? Lay off the facebook people. It’s obviously rotting your brain.

Glad you are finally coming around. If I get the energy soon I will write up my article on why facebook will be dead in 2 years. I’ll have you know – I predicted the myspace heavy decline like 2 years before it happened and I am predicting same with facebook. I know my shit, and if I wasn’t lazy I’d get a social networking site out there that would own big time. Here’s the main problems with these sites: they don’t know how to get rich. On Myspace, you remember seeing many ads? I remember seeing tons of spam, but all they had were lame banner ads that you could block. Facebook? Is there even ads on there? Again I never notice, but I know its oversaturated with OTHER people making money via a million, quadrillion apps.
The fact is – these idiots running it forget all about the money. If I had the time, I’d do a social networking site and guaranteed I’d own. Facebook is too complicated and crazy these days. Things like Twitter are starting to work out well and grow in popularity, and what someone needs to do is combine the two, and go back to facebooks roots.
