HUGE win at softball last night
Jul/090
I have a softball team. We are not that good. We won our first two games, but then have proceeded to lose every game since. I don’t help much as I am rather terrible with the bat, but so is pretty much everyone else on my team so it doesn’t matter that much. After just a few weeks of playing we came to realize that everyone else in the league takes this thing way more serious than any of us would ever want to. We play one day a week. They play in this league and four others, plus enter random tournaments from time to time. I reacted to this by practicing even less than I might have and drinking more before each game. It’s worked out pretty well for me as I still have fun despite the way that we (I) play. It is what it is.
Yesterday we played against Carvettis, a local bar here that everyone seems to hate. We scrimaged against them once and lost like 30-4 or something. My buddy Nate runs the team so I wanted to beat them just to stick it to him as they are actually a pretty good team that should make the playoffs. The game started and we were short. You are supposed to have 10, you need 8 and we had 7 because two people were late. We ended up going and grabbing some kid off the basketball court to play with us and started the game with two outfielders. From the get go we thought this thing was going to go bad, but somehow we got out of that inning with the lead. The other two finally showed up right as they had to bat and we were off. It started to rain and the kid off the basketball court hit two balls off the top of the fence (only one was a homerun). Mike kept saying it was like we were playing in “The Natural” with the rain and wind going crazy the whole time and I would have to agree with him. I sucked as usual, but added a key hit late and scored a run. We won by 6. Did the other team only play with 9, most of whom were drunk? Yeah, but a win is a win.
