WGD: Super Bowl Party

WGD or World’s Greatest Dad is my new feature about how awesome of a father I am.

I took Nolan over to my friends Mike and Mel’s house for the Super Bowl last night. There was a few other parents with kids there and Mel and Mike have two kids of their own, though they are much older. I wanted to see how Nolan would do around some other kids (and watch the game) and I think it went pretty good. They had one of those little Radio Flyer bikes and Nolan just loved it. He didn’t really cry much unless he fell into something and when he did cry he stopped after I told him he was embarrassing me in front of my friends (kidding). As if there was any doubt that he was my son, he undid it when he took someone’s baseball cap, put it over his face and started walking around. What a showman. He ended up running into the wall, but I think he knows it was worth it. If there’s one thing I believe it’s that it’s okay to hurt yourself if people laugh. Clearly, we’re on the same page.

Originally I had planned to leave at halftime, but he ended up having so much fun that he just stayed awake until he passed out in the Pack N Play. Overall, he was a superstar kid who barely wanted anything to do with his dad for most of the night. Some people would complain about this, but to me that’s exactly how it should be. Nolan having fun without needing me or anyone else to hold his hand while he does it. As his father it’s my job to take care of him, not be his friend and if he’s anything like me he won’t need me to be because making friends won’t be a problem.
