Now let me get one thing straight. I am a Mariners fan. If the Mariners are playing anyone I want them to win, if they are playing the Brewers I root for the Mariners. Period. There is no discussion here whatsoever. That being said the Brewers/Cubs game I went to yesterday was probably the greatest experience I have ever had at a sporting event. It was tense as hell the whole game and it got to the point where I was so on edge that I broke one of my rules as a fan, I bought a tshirt of another team and wore it. I wanted the Brewers to win so badly that I spent twenty five bucks on a t-shirt because I didn’t want my lack of support to be a hinderance. The sad part is, it worked.
The same inning I put it on is the same inning they tied it. Then when Braun hit the homerun, you just knew that was it. I’ve never been filled with as much electricity as I was after that homerun and I don’t know if they let some of the celebration stuff off early or what, but man was it dusty in there. I couldn’t get my eyes to stop watering. We stayed til the end of the Mets game and then some, one of the best times I’ve ever had at a ballgame. The funny thing is that this is exactly what made me fall in love with the Mariners way back in 1995 when they staged the GREATEST COMEBACK EVER to win the NL West. The dramatic homeruns, the must win games, all of it; but back then I was watching on TV. It was electric, but it can’t even hope to match what it’s like to be there. Yesterday, I was there and it was everything I’ve dreamed of and more. Being in that park for that experience is something I will tell my son about for the rest of his life. It’s something that I can always say “I was there” for and have people be jealous of me. This is what’s important in life. Experiences that matter. Two weeks ago I completely gave up on the Brewers. Today? I’m considering paying a ridiculous amount of money for crappy seats so I can go back. Games like that change everything and you know what? It doesn’t really matter what happens now. This will always be one of the greatest things I have ever witnessed and I wouldn’t trade that for anything.
Because it gave me this. Milwaukee Brewers. National League Wild Card champions.
