Brewers

So every year I always adopt a second team. Partly so I can watch more baseball, partly because the Mariners suck. This year it was the Brewers. I went to a few games last year that were good cheap fun and I really like the way their roster is constructed. Just a well built team with an eye toward the future (basically the complete opposite of the Mariners). They struggled out of the gate and the Cubs and Cardinals have been killing teams since the first week. Add to that the absence of Gallardo and Capuano and I really thought this team had no chance this year.

Well, all of a sudden they have the third best record in the NL (behind Cubs and Cardinals) and are the hottest team in baseball. This can all be tied to two things: starting pitching and Prince Fielder starting to hit like Prince Fielder. I’ve seen people clamor for him to be traded (and those people are stupid), but there is just no replacing what his bat brings to the team and it’s importance to the teams success. Not at this point anyways. What surprised me is not that their good, I always knew they were better than they were playing, but just how suddenly they seemed to catch up.

Side note: The worst part about all of this is there is a good chance that THREE teams within an hour and a half from my house are going to make the playoffs. Which means I would have had a 50/50 shot of seeing the Mariners in round 1 or a 1/4 chance of seeing them in the ALCS and then if they made the World Series a 50/50 chance of seeing all of their away games. So, once more with feeling, fuck you Bill Bavasi.
