I was screwing around on baseball-reference trying to see what the Mets (right on at 86-70) Pythagorean W-L was in comparison to the Brewers (two games better 83-73) when I noticed a few stats that stuck out at me.
Brewers OPS+ Leaders
Braun 128
Fielder 128
Hardy 116
Ray Durham 115
Cameron 109
Hart 100
Rickie Weeks 93
Bill Hall 79
Craig Counsell 75
Jason Kendall 73
In just the past month the following things have happened:
- Prince Fielder has become as valuable to the team as Ryan Braun has. A hot streak and a slump (likely injury related) at the same time can do that to teammates.
- Corey Hart has become a league average hitter (and could drop more).
- Mike Cameron remains awesome.
A couple more observations:
- Rickie Weeks despite proving himself to be a second half player (2007, 2008) has been left out in the cold despite being valuable. This team could use a September like he had last year, bad.
- Craig Counsell and Jason Kendall need to be pinch hit for more in late innings.
Seriously, does Mike Rivera not know how to catch? If he doesn’t let me know and I will stop saying this. You can say what they both did last night, but overall that stuff won’t happen everyday as the stats clearly prove.
