Why Brett Favre wants to come back and why he’s wrong

Since the day he retired all that has been talked about is Brett Favre coming back. He’s not really retired, he never officially filed his retirement papers, he wants to come back, etc ad nauseam forever. The thing is he WANTS to keep playing, he doesn’t want to retire. He just doesn’t want to be a Packer anymore. In his mind he should have been the guy to topple the undefeated Patriots and he would have too if it wasn’t so freaking cold in Green Bay. If he could just get another shot with another team in a place where it’s above freezing for the championship game he knows he could do it. Minnesota has a good defense, good running back and they play in a dome. He probably thinks he could do it there. Now I know what you’re thinking, Brett Favre built his reputation on his play in the cold, but here’s the thing he’s old now. Getting older has a weird effect on things in your life. You can’t see close up as good as you used to, you don’t stay up as late as you used to and you’re freaking cold in the winter. I honestly think that Brett Favre thinks that if he had played that NFC Championship anywhere else he wouldn’t have thrown that terrible interception in overtime.

He is, of course, wrong. Brett Favre has been on the decline for many years now and this past season he finally had an offense that was designed specifically for him. He had all the tools he could possibly imagine with his receivers and they played well together. This past season was a perfect storm for an aging gunslinger and a few receivers with something to prove. They took it far, further than I would have ever imagined they would, but when it came down to it the better team won. The more experienced team won, the better defense won. If anything the weather in the game is what made it as close as it was (people forget Tynes missed two kicks). Starting over now with another team would be a very dumb move on Brett’s part. Not because he can’t perform, but because whatever team he goes to won’t be the same as his team last year and without a team like the one he had last year he just won’t be successful enough to compete for a championship. Which is the only reason he wants to come back in the first place. You had your chance and you missed it, let it go. I don’t like seeing my friends cry.
