I’ve read a few books about Michael Jordan, including David Halberstam’s classic Playing for Keeps, and he was always portrayed as the most competitive guy in the world. Going so far as to punch Steve Kerr in the face. A video recently surfaced of a mutual fund CEO beating Michael one on one and it just doesn’t play right. Why doesn’t Michael punch him in the face? Or at least foul him hard?
Watching the video, it’s obvious Jordan wasn’t actually trying. If he made those threes and beat him, fine but it wasn’t like he was going to D him up or drive the lane. This was a gift.
I can’t decide if I still like the NBA or not. I hate “the NBA” I just am not sure if I hate basketball as well. The Bucks are running a special for $10 seats all this month and next and I might go see Lebron James because, well, he’s Lebron James. In basketball talented players stand out more than any other sport and I feel like Lebron James is a once in a lifetime talent so I owe it to myself to see him. I think I will still watch games from time to time and follow basketball to an extent, but it will never be what it was. When some team moves to Seattle, it won’t be the same. I’m done with this league as something truly important to me and David Stern is now #1 on my “people I will punch in the face if I ever meet them” list.
But that doesn’t mean I can’t bet on it! And my boy Scots just launched NBAtips.net, so that I don’t even have to do my own research. So I got that going for me. I’m going to be riding him all weekend and see how it goes. If it’s anything like his WNBA tips site, that will be very good.
Hey, it’s Vince, just wanted to let you guys now that you both totally suck and I hope you are happy together in a market both smaller and poorer than the one you are leaving. It’s strange how, after the team moves, Key Arena is now capable of being upgraded to meet NBA standards for a new team to move in down the road. I can’t help but think thanks but no thanks. The city gave a lot to the league for years and the league gave absolutely nothing to the city but grief and unrealistic demands.
Seriously, that was some of the rawest emotion I have seen in a post game interview since the Jordan days. Who cares if what he said was borderline insane?
I'm 29 years old, a single dad and my name is Vince. I write about my life and the things that I find interesting which covers everything from movies to TV to wrestling to writing. I'm just trying to have fun, have a good life and figure out how I can be even more awesome. Still working on that last one. You can find my baseball blog at Miller Park Drunk. I've been told it's okay.
