“most of the people who identify themselves as anti-establishment individualists are almost always the ones voting for more government intervention, more government control.”

Sometimes I think my political “views” often alienate me from my friends (I parenthesize views because there are plenty of things I disagree with Republicans on, but I find them right more often than not. Yet, if I say to someone “I am a Republican” they most likely start an anti-Bush, pro-gay marriage, pro-abortion, Obama-is-going-to-save-the-world, pro-something else that doesn’t really matter argument with me.) Then I read something like this and feel better.

Likewise, most of the people who identify themselves as anti-establishment individualists are almost always the ones voting for more government intervention, more government control. They believe they are against ‘the man,’ but they almost never meet a problem they don’t think should be solved by, well, more ‘the man.’ People who claim to love the poor almost always favor policies that prevent the creation of wealth and jobs, the only two things that have ever consistently elevated men out of poverty. People who claim to be the most tolerant are almost always hostile to any opinion other than their own. People who believe themselves to be the most color blind and supportive of racial integration seem to be most in favor of holding people to different standards of accomplishment and conduct based on the color of their skin.

I’m as anti-establishment as it gets. I got kicked out of EIGTH GRADE. Think about that for a second. Eighth grade. Do you know how many virgins I knew in eighth grade? Fucking everyone because you are just a kid. Yet, I tend to agree with Republicans. Why? Because Republicans stay out of my fucking life and let me keep my money. That’s why.

Oh Nancy

Oh, Nancy.

Pelosi, who clashed with the military to get nonstop service when she flies home to California with police protection on government planes, revealed a particular fondness for Gulfstream’s sleek G-5 – a plane glamorized in Hollywood films and rap videos.

“It is my understanding there are no G-5s available for the House during the Memorial Day recess. This is totally unacceptable . . . The speaker will want to know where the planes are,” a Pelosi aide wrote in an angry e-mail to the military.

Why do House members even get military escorts? Does anyone actually care about Nancy Pelosi enough for her life to be at risk? Doubtful. She shouldn’t even get a private plane, especially a non stop military escorted one and especially-especially not a G5.

In her defense she does know Brad Pitt.

Nancy Pelosi, one of the most powerful women in the United States, quivered like a schoolgirl in front of a bored-looking Brad Pitt at the US capital yesterday.

That kills me for some reason.

Brett Favre is an idiot

I find myself really not liking Brett Favre anymore. It’s weird, but I just can’t stand the guy anymore. Maybe it’s the whole forcing a trade a couple months after retiring thing. Or maybe it’s things like this.

Favre won’t reveal which candidate he chose during early voting in Mississippi on a trip home during the Jets’ bye week.

“I have no idea if I’m a Democrat or a Republican,” he says. “I don’t even know enough about politics.”

Here’s a hint: You like guns, you live in the South and you make more than $250k a year. You’re a Republican.

One last election thought..

Well, it’s here and I said my two bits about who I voted for and why for the most part. I think it’s important to know that. This is actually the first election I have ever voted in and I am proud of that to an extent because I honestly feel that this is the first election that I have deserved to vote in. I know the issues, I know the candidates, I know what to expect from them and I voted accordingly. Could I have said that in the previous two elections I was eligible to vote? Absolutely not. I once told someone that I have never voted and they told me that “voting was the most important thing I could do in my life” and I thought they were an idiot. That person may have had a point, you should vote but if you ask me it’s only important to vote if you know what you’re voting for. Obama is going to win because he seems cool, he seems different, but do his policies really help a lot of the people that are voting for him? Maybe, maybe not. The point is that a lot of people DON’T KNOW if they do or not and that is the problem. I once heard a quote that said “I have to take a test to get a drivers license, but anyone can vote.” I mean, even with American Idol you should watch the singing before you vote. So if you vote, just make sure you did it for the right reason. It’s kind of important.

Our next president

Well it’s almost time. I am voting today, but for most of the world tomorrow is the day of the election. I honestly can’t wait for it to be over so we can go back to arguing about more important things, like Mike Cameron’s option being picked up (great move, imo). I think it’s going to take a lot for John McCain to be elected and we are looking at a world where Barack Obama is going to be our next president. Some people are happy about this (like every celebrity and 18-24 year old in the world) and some like me aren’t. There are serious questions about this guy that have been glossed over in the media because he gives great speeches and he makes reporters feel all tingly inside. Hilary Clinton focused on his ability to lead with her famous 3 AM phone call and that worked, to an extent. McCain somehow ignored this and it will probably cost him. His campaign was all over the place and never focused on one thing like Obama did and that’s huge.

It’s crazy to me that there has been so little coverage of Obama’s Illinois history. Or foreign and unaccountable funds coming into the campaign. Or Obama’s plan to bankrupt the coal industry. Or Obama’s aunt being an illegal US citizen. The picture above. It goes on and on. Unless you are listening to talk radio or reading blogs you are missing this stuff and it’s just crazy. Do I think John McCain is the best man for the job? Not really, but this is a two horse race and of the two horses John McCain is definitely the right one imo. Presidents are made by their campaigns and Obama’s was just a lot better. Thank you David Axelrod.

The whole Obama campaign reminds me of the movie SFW. In that movie terrorists kidnap some people and force the networks to carry their tapings of the hostages. One of the hostages, Stephen Dorf, is a cool badass and he says “So fucking what” which becomes a national slogan and he becomes one of the most famous people in America. That to me is Barack Obama. He’s cool, he’s smart, he’s suave and he created a catchphrase that sparked a nation. Does that make a good president? I doubt it, but we’re all going to find out.
