"It's okay honey, Daddy will be home as soon as Madonna tells him it's okay."
Following up on previous posts about my Yankees hate is this great story about Alex Rodriguez, Madonna and Thanksgiving.
“Access Hollywood” reports that Cynthia, who’s in the final stages of her divorce from A-Rod, wrote an e-mail to a confidant noting: “My 6-foot-3, 220-pound soul-less, soon-to-be ex-husband is abandoning his kids on Thanksgiving to be with Madonna . . . She called and he ran on her command back to New York City . . . Gross!”
You see, I hate A-Rod just as much as I hate the Yankees. It’s not because of what you might think though. I am GLAD he’s not a Mariner. I’m glad he turned down the Mariners offer to set the record for biggest contract ever, which he then broke with his Yankees extension (that no other team in the entire league would have even come close to). I am mature enough to know that athletes always take the most money. I’m mature enough to know that “loyalty” does not exist except in the rarest of cases. I’m mature enough to know that it doesn’t really matter how much money a player makes as you’d rather have your team spend that money on players than keep it all to themselves, but I just don’t like A-Rod. At all. He is the quintessential Scott Boras client. All the stuff about him sucking in the clutch is true and he’s probably the fakest person ever to hit the public spotlight in my lifetime. Plus, Albert Pujols is better.

I am a career Yankee hater. I hate them more than any other franchise and this current offseason has only gone on to solidify it. It’s one thing for them to outspend everyone, but a whole other matter to get completely one sided trades to go in your favor while your owner is watching The Ghost Whisperer. When my son’s mother was pregnant one of her friends who was living in New York sent him a baby Yankees jersey and this led to a HUGE fight because I would never, ever allow him to wear it in his entire life. She didn’t understand, I know I was right. This is why I pay child support and see my son every other weekend.
ANYWAYS, I feel this Orioles fan’s pain and this might be one of my favorite Dugouts of all time. Right up there with the time Farnsworth played GTA IV.

Dave Cameron has a post over at fangraphs about CC Sabathia’s true free agent value. I find it interesting because while I find myself and others to be up in arms about what the Yankees are prepared to offer him (6y/$150M), an offer few teams could match. What’s interesting is that if he ends up signing for that the Yankees are actually GETTING A DEAL.
5.5 million * 5.5 wins = 30.25 million. That’s what we’d expect Sabathia to be worth if he signed a one year deal, which he clearly won’t do. In exchange for the security of a long term deal, he’ll give teams a slight discount off his current value. At a 10% discount for the safety of a five to seven year deal, that would put his annual average salary at $27 million.
So, that’s the baseline – six years, $162 million for Sabathia. If he signs for significantly less than that, whoever gets him is getting a relative bargain.
Brian Cashman is one of the best GMs in baseball and he doesn’t really get a lot of credit for it because of how much money he has at his disposal, but whatever he gets CC for (and he will get him) will probably be a very good deal for his team in the long run. Throw in this deal with the Nick Swisher steal and the Yankees are positioned to be really good thanks to Brian Cashman. Which is good for him, but sucks for everyone else. Don’t believe the hype, the Yankees being good isn’t good for the sport or anyone who watches it. The Yankees being good is only good for people with no soul.
